The ISB has been involved in the development of the RINGEN centre since its establishment in 2015 and was formally constituted in 2018. Its main role is to ensure the high scientific quality of the research and to strengthen links with similar centres in Europe and overseas. The members of the ISB, who are renowned scientists and experts in the field, contribute to shaping RINGEN’s long-term research strategy, jointly define key topics, and are also involved in ongoing projects, particularly the SYNERGYS project.
This project was the subject of further discussion within the broader implementation team over the following two days. The main focus was the expert evaluation of proposed options for the implementation of deep boreholes and the preparation of key technical documentation. In particular, the international team addressed options for the final borehole design, including alternative scenarios, discussed the geological conditions and the data obtained so far from the 2D seismic survey, as well as the overall project schedule and the public procurement strategy. Alongside the implementation itself, public procurement represents the most demanding phase of this part of the project.
In addition to scientific experts, an engineering company is also involved in the preparation of the deep boreholes. It is responsible for the borehole implementation design (the so-called basis of design), the technical part of the tender documentation for the selection of individual contractors, and the subsequent technical supervision of the drilling works.
“The coming weeks will be devoted to finalising the bases of design, which will serve as the basis for completing the technical design of the boreholes and preparing tender documentation for services and materials with long delivery times, which may be nine months or more. For this reason, these items must be procured first,” said Professor Tomáš Fischer of Charles University, Director of RINGEN and principal investigator of the SYNERGYS project.
The ISB has a total of six members, four international and two domestic. Its composition is available on the Organisational Structure page:
